When I moved to Richmond in 1988 to study art, I never expected to fall in love. But the city stole my heart with its architectural charm, cultural treasures, natural beauty and incredibly eclectic cultural scene. I've lived here for over 20 years, but every day I discover something new about her.

My family and I have called this region home all our lives. We've always felt safe and a sense of community, and enjoy the mix of urban and rural cultures. We have a lifetime of memories and relationships that are built and rooted in this area. My children currently attend the same elementary school as their father, grandparents and great-grandparents. How cool is that?

It's funny. I grew up in Richmond with hopes of moving away. When my VCU acceptance letter arrived, I was excited… but also bummed. I was going to be that person who never left home. Man, was I naive. Moving into an apartment off Monument, submerging myself into the creative juiciness VCU has oozing out of itself turned out to be so thrilling and eye-opening. I can't imagine being anywhere else. And breweries! 😎

After we married, my wife and I wanted to relocate somewhere more exciting than Ohio. We first fell in love with the beautiful neighborhoods in the city. After we had our two daughters, we moved to the suburbs and started visiting areas outside the city, including the valley, DC and the beach. We quickly realized Richmond and beyond is great for family fun. We’re glad we came!
